Apply-Ready: your grant application, drafted from your own answers

Apply-Ready is a $9 grant application drafting service from GrantCompass. You answer four short questions about your business and, about 20 seconds later, read a free preview of a draft written for one specific grant. No card, no account. The full draft costs $9, and you submit it yourself on the funder’s own form. We draft for eighteen grants: the Amber Grant for Women, the Hey Helen Grant, the HerRise MicroGrant, the Freed Fellowship Grant, the Business Freedom Grant, the SecretSoS Small Business Grant, The Hustle Grant, the YippityDoo Big Idea Grant, the Her Agenda Breakthrough Grant, the IFW Startup Accelerator Grant, the Hiring Our Heroes Small Business Grant, the Sephora Beauty Grant, the Seated Together Small Business Microgrant, the Hustler’s MicroGrant, the Awesome Foundation Micro-Grant, the Outta Excuses Small Business Empowerment Grant, the Tory Burch Foundation Fellows Program and the Thiel Fellowship. We use only what you tell us. GrantCompass is independent, cannot submit for you and does not guarantee a win.

What Apply-Ready is, in one minute

Short answer

Apply-Ready writes a first draft of your grant application from four answers you give about your business. You see a preview for free. The full draft is $9, paid by card through Stripe, and refunded in full within 7 days if it doesn’t make your application stronger. You copy the answers into the funder’s form and submit it yourself.

Most grant forms ask you to describe your business in a few hundred words, in a way that fits what the judges score. You already know the facts. The slow part is getting them onto the page in the right order and at the right length. Apply-Ready takes the facts from you and writes them to the questions that grant’s form asks.

It doesn’t submit anything for you, and it can’t promise a win. GrantCompass is independent and has no affiliation with any funder on this page.

How it works, step by step

There are six steps, and the first four cost nothing. You only reach the payment step after you have read part of your own draft.

  1. Pick your grant

Open the page for the grant you want from the table below. The draft form is on that page. Each grant has its own form here because each funder asks different questions.

    Free
  2. Check that you can apply

The first screen asks that grant’s eligibility questions, such as whether the business is at least 50% woman-owned or registered in the United States. If the rules exclude you, we say so there and stop. At that point you have written nothing and paid nothing.

    Yes or No questions
  3. Answer four short questions

They are about your business, in plain words:

    • What’s your business?
    • Why did you start it?
    • Where are you now?
    • What would you do with the money?

A sentence or two each is enough, and “just starting” is a fine answer to the third one. Your business name and any other details come after the preview.

    5 to 10 minutes
  4. Read the free preview

We write the draft in about 20 seconds. Longer applications can take up to a minute. You see the opening paragraph in full, the funder’s questions with the number of words we wrote for each, and a checklist of the judging points the draft covers. If you want time to think, you can have the link to your draft emailed to you.

About 20 secondsNo card, no account
  5. Pay $9 if you want the rest

Checkout is by card through Stripe. The full draft opens as soon as the payment clears, and we email you the link. Before you pay you can tick an add-on: drafts for the other month-end grants you qualify for, written from the same answers, at $5 each and never more than $15.

    $9Add-on is optional
  6. Fill the blanks, then submit it yourself

Where a stronger answer needs a detail only you know, the draft has a marked blank and a question. Answer the questions and we rewrite the application with your additions, in about 20 seconds each time. The page also highlights any line that goes a little beyond what you told us, so you can check it is true or delete it. You can change any wording on the page.

Then copy each answer into the matching box on the funder’s form, pay the funder’s entry fee if there is one, and submit.

The eighteen grants Apply-Ready drafts for

Every grant in this table has a written application that is judged on what you write, and we have confirmed its questions on the funder’s live form. The awards, entry fees and deadline rules are the funders’ own. Each grant name opens its page with the draft form ready.

How to read this table. The deadline column prints each funder’s rule and not a countdown, because most of these grants run a new round every month. The grant’s own page shows the next closing date. “Funder’s fee” is the entry fee you pay to the funder. “Questions” counts the essay or short-answer questions on the funder’s form, which are the ones a draft answers. “Who can apply” lists the eligibility rules our form checks before it writes anything. The funder’s page has the complete rules.

Most of these funders charge their own entry fee, so the full cost of entering with a draft is our $9 plus their fee. For the Amber Grant for Women that is $9 to us and $15 to WomensNet. The Business Freedom Grant has no entry fee.

What each funder asks, in its own words

These are the written questions on each funder’s form, copied word for word, next to the points each funder says its judges score. A draft covers these written answers. Your name, address and the other fields on the form are yours to fill in.

Eight written answers with no length limit, plus basic details, links and an optional deck. Applications are accepted all year. Most of the answers are about you, not your project, so where only you can answer (what you fear, what you’re obsessed with) the draft leaves a marked gap with a prompt.

The form asks

  1. What are you working on now?
  2. What cool stuff have you worked on in the past?
  3. What is the most important problem facing your field?
  4. What is the most important problem facing another field of work?
  5. What are you currently obsessed with that is totally unrelated to your project?
  6. How do you feel about money?
  7. What are you scared of?
  8. Tell us something tangible you want.

Who can apply

Anyone 22 or younger without a university degree. Fellows leave school to take part; no company is needed.

What the free preview shows you

The preview is part of your real draft, and you get it before any payment screen. It has three parts: the opening paragraph, a list of what is in the full draft, and a checklist against the funder’s judging points.

  1. The opening paragraph, in full. You can judge the writing before you decide. The rest of the draft is hidden until you pay.
  2. What the full draft contains. The funder’s own questions, with the number of words we wrote for each one.
  3. A checklist against the judging points. A tick means the draft covers that point from what you told us. An open circle means you haven’t given us enough for it yet, and we ask you one question about it after you pay.
  4. A count of marked blanks. A blank looks like this inside a paid draft: add: what a commercial oven costs. We leave one wherever a detail is missing, so the draft never guesses.

The example on this page is made up. Sample Street Bakery is not a real applicant, and the word counts are illustrative. Your preview is written from your own answers, for the grant you picked.

Not ready to buy when you see it? You can have the link to your draft emailed to you, with one reminder before that grant closes.

Start with the free preview. Pick one of the eighteen grants, answer four questions, and read the opening of your own draft before you decide about the $9.

What is free and what $9 adds

The free part is enough to tell whether the draft sounds like your business. The $9 buys every answer in full, plus the rewriting that turns a first draft into something you can paste and submit.

If you are entering more than one month-end grant

Five of the eighteen grants close on the last day of each month: the Amber Grant for Women, the Hey Helen Grant, the HerRise MicroGrant, the Freed Fellowship Grant and the YippityDoo Big Idea Grant. Before you pay, you can tick an add-on that drafts the others you qualify for from the same five answers. Each extra grant is $5 and the add-on never costs more than $15. It is off unless you tick it.

The refund, in plain terms

If the draft doesn’t make your application stronger, reply to your receipt email within 7 days and we refund the full amount. You keep the draft either way.

What we will do and what we won’t

A draft is only useful if every sentence in it is true about your business. These are the rules the service runs on.

We will

  • Use only what you tell us about your business
  • Leave a marked blank where a detail is missing, and ask you for it
  • Write to the funder’s real questions and limits, such as the 250 characters per answer on the HerRise form
  • Tell you before any writing if the grant’s rules exclude you
  • Show you part of your draft before you pay
  • Refund you in full within 7 days if the draft doesn’t make your application stronger

We won’t

  • Invent facts, numbers, customers or a backstory
  • Submit the application for you
  • Pay the funder’s entry fee, or include it in our price
  • Guarantee a win or tell you your odds
  • Claim any relationship with a funder. We have none
  • Sell a draft for a grant whose form asks applicants not to use AI

Read every line before you submit. The page highlights the sentences it thinks go beyond your answers, but you are the only person who knows what is true about your business.

Grants we don’t draft for, and why

Eighteen grants is a short list on purpose. We leave a grant out when any one of these is true.

  1. The form asks applicants not to use AI.Some funders say this on the application itself. A draft would put your entry at risk, so we don’t offer one.
  2. The winner is picked by random draw. When the rules say winners may be drawn at random, what you write doesn’t decide the result. A draft can’t help with that.
  3. We couldn’t confirm the questions on the live form.A draft is only as good as the questions it answers. If the form sits behind a login or we can’t read its questions for ourselves, we leave the grant out. We never guess at them.

If your grant isn’t one of the eighteen, start with these free pages instead.

Is it worth $9 for your application?

It depends on where you are stuck. A draft can’t make a business stronger than it is. What it does is put what you have done into the order and length the form asks for, and show you which judging points you haven’t given it anything for yet.

Three questions to decide

Is the grant you want one of the eighteen on this page?
IF YES → Good. Start the free draft on that grant’s page. Its first screen checks the eligibility rules before anything is written.
IF NO → Apply-Ready can’t help with that grant. The free guide to applying for small business grants walks through the process for any form.
Do you already have a finished application you are happy with?
IF YES → Keep your $9. You can still run the free preview and compare its checklist of judging points against your own essay.
IF NO → This is the case the draft is built for. Answer the four questions, read the free opening paragraph, and pay only if it sounds like your business.
Are you entering more than one grant that closes at month-end?
IF YES → The add-on drafts each extra grant you qualify for from the same answers for $5, and never more than $15 for all of them. The most you can pay is $24.
IF NO → One draft is $9. Leave the add-on unticked.

Count the funder’s fee too. Twelve of the eighteen funders charge one, from $5 to $25, and it is the same whether you write the application yourself or start from a draft. The $9 is the only part that goes to GrantCompass.

If you would sooner write it yourself, that is a reasonable choice. The cards in what each funder asks give you every question and every judging point for free.

Questions people ask before paying

Is Apply-Ready legitimate?

Apply-Ready is run by GrantCompass, an independent funding-discovery site that tracks more than 660 US grant, loan and tax-credit programs. You read part of your draft before you pay, the payment goes through Stripe, and there is a 7-day refund. We are not affiliated with any funder, and we don’t charge you to apply for a grant. The funders’ own entry fees go to them, on their forms. You can read who runs GrantCompass on the about page.

Is the draft written by AI?

Yes. An AI model, Anthropic’s Claude, writes the draft from the answers you give. We supply the funder’s questions, taken from the live form, and the points the funder says its judges score. The model works only from your facts and leaves a marked blank where one is missing. Our privacy policy says the same thing. We don’t offer drafts for a grant whose form asks applicants not to use AI.

Will the funder know I used a drafting tool?

We never contact the funder and we share nothing with them. You submit from your own browser, on their form. Whether a reader can tell how an application was written is something we can’t promise either way. Two things are in your hands. The draft is built from your own facts, and you can change any sentence so that it sounds like you. Check the funder’s current rules before you submit. If a form asks applicants not to use AI, don’t use a draft for it.

Can you submit the application for me?

No. Each of these funders takes applications on its own form, and most charge an entry fee there. Your paid draft page links to that form and has a Copy button on each answer. You paste the answers in, pay the funder’s fee if there is one, and submit.

What if I’m not eligible for the grant?

You find out first. The draft form opens with that grant’s eligibility questions. If your answers show that the rules exclude you, we tell you which rule and stop there, before any writing and before any payment. From there you can look through the grant database or the list of small business grants open now.

How do refunds work?

If the draft doesn’t make your application stronger, reply to your receipt email within 7 days and we refund the full amount. You keep the draft.

How long does it take?

Answering the four questions takes 5 to 10 minutes. Writing the draft takes about 20 seconds, or up to a minute for the longer applications. After you pay, each rewrite with your added details takes about 20 seconds as well. How long you spend on the blanks is up to you.

Is my information private?

Your answers are used to write your draft. Anthropic, the company whose model writes it, processes them for that purpose, and Stripe processes the card payment. You can ask us to delete your account data and drafts, and we do it within 30 days of the request. The privacy policy lists everything we collect and who receives it.

Do I still pay the funder’s entry fee?

Yes, where the funder charges one. Twelve of the eighteen do: $15 for most (the Hustler’s MicroGrant and the Outta Excuses grant included), $5 for the IFW Startup Accelerator Grant (IFW waives it if you ask) and the Seated Together Microgrant, $19 for the Freed Fellowship Grant and $25 for the Her Agenda Breakthrough Grant. The Business Freedom Grant, the Hiring Our Heroes Small Business Grant, the Sephora Beauty Grant, the Awesome Foundation Micro-Grant, the Tory Burch Foundation Fellows Program and the Thiel Fellowship have no entry fee. That money goes to the funder on their form and is separate from our $9.
